Studio philosophy and goal:
The main goal of this studio is to get as many people playing drums and percussion as possible. I feel the key to doing that is to make sure that each individual lesson is fruitful and enjoyable. Each lesson is informed by rhythmic information but, the ultimate goal of the lesson and the studio is to convey that we should learn to play these instruments mostly because it is fun. That said there is also in place a curriculum for the serious student whose goal is to excel in the art of percussion with a sense of musicianship, passion and pride. It is my hope that these two shades of the same palette will coexist in the common realm of fun.
Payment:
Payment is requested on the day of the lesson. It is easier for me to keep records in this fashion. I am not opposed to prepayment by any means so if this works better for your style of bookkeeping, please feel free.
Cancellations:
24-hour notice is required either by e-mail or phone, otherwise the lesson must be paid for.
The “Rhythm by the Numbers” books:
This studio comes with one common denominator – Encouraging the student to count aloud while playing, with the books as a facilitator. In my opinion it is essential to at least have access to the voice while playing. It is also beneficial to develop a relationship to many kinds of notation, especially in the study of drumming where you will be exposed to a cadre of different styles.
Leaving the studio:
It is my request that in the inevitable event that you or your child decides to leave the studio, please give me as much notice as possible. If you have an outstanding debt to The Rhythm Lab, I request that you pay it in full. Thank you in advance for your cooperation on this.
Thank You!
Doug
